MEET MOUTH PAINTER - ROBERT TRENT
Born with arthrogryposis, a condition affecting the joints and muscular development, Robert Trent attended Chailey Heritage Special School from the age of six, where he was encouraged toward independence and first discovered his love of art through an early tutor who recognised his potential.
Academics took priority for a while: Rob earned a BSc in Information Systems and built a career at Ordnance Survey in Southampton, painting only in his spare time. He joined the MFPA as a Student Member in 1998, and was thrilled when one of his paintings of the Houses of Parliament was chosen for a Christmas card. He became a Full Member Artist in 2021.
Since retiring from Ordnance Survey in 2018, Rob has devoted himself fully to his art, developing a distinctive style especially suited to landscapes. He and his wife, Kim, travel together in Rob's specially adapted vehicle, seeking out inspiring scenery to paint, often with their daughter, Yasmin, along for the journey.
