MEET MOUTH PAINTER - DAVID CAWTHORNE
After leaving school at 16, David L. Cawthorne began working as a miner and enjoyed playing Rugby League with his colleagues. In February 1981, a spinal injury during a game left him almost completely paralysed. During physiotherapy and movement therapy, David learned to use his mouth for everyday activities and was introduced to mouth painting.
With just a few months of practice, David began developing his painting skills. Encouraged by family and friends who asked him to create paintings for them, he became increasingly dedicated to his art and continued to make remarkable progress.
Nine years after his accident, David received a scholarship from the Association, an honour that allowed him to devote more time to developing his painting. In 1998, he became an Associate Member of the VDMFK, giving him the opportunity to further pursue his passion for art.
David paints a variety of subjects, but his favourite inspiration is the landscape of his home region. His work has been featured in numerous joint exhibitions, allowing his distinctive perspective and love of the landscape to be shared with a wider audience.
