ABOUT THE ARTIST

Maria Guadalupe Rivera Rosas was born on 18 May 1999 in the town of Los Mochis, Sinaloa. She came into the world with arthrogryposis multiplex, combined with a hip luxation and a club foot. At the age of one, she was taken to a hospital in La Paz B.C.S., where her feet were corrected. When she was three, she was taken to Obregón, Sonora, where she had a hip operation. Since then, Maria can walk, but with difficulty, as her legs are stiff. In November 2010, she got to know VDMFK scholarship holder and mouth painting artist María de los Ángeles Romero Pérez, who told her about the mouth painting group run by teacher and scholarship holder Lidia de Jesús Cháidez López. She immediately showed an interest in attending the painting lessons, to learn mouth painting. Due to her steadfast motivation, the artist can make consistent progress.
